How young is TOO YOUNG to get a remote notarization?

July 20, 2022

A signer must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to be eligible for a notarization online or in-person.  When conducting a remote notarization, each signer is required to answer four (4) security questions in under two (2) minutes (which may go back as far as 30 years into the signer’s history) among other requirements such as uploading a state issued driver license, identification card or U.S. Passport and adopting an electronic signature. The security questions are pulled by the Remote Online Notarization (“RON”) Platform using the signer’s credit history and background check.  The recommendation is that each signer have at least 5 years of credit history.  Therefore, the RON platform may be unable to produce questions for signer’s under twenty-three (23) years of age.

Furthermore, each signer should have some computer or smart device knowledge before proceeding to successfully complete the mandatory online identity screening.  If an individual is signing documents remotely

Additional requirements may apply based on the documents being signed. It is strongly recommended that the signer have a U.S. phone number regardless of his/her/their age.
