An apostille certifies the authenticity of the issuing official or notary public’s signature. Each state designates a Competent Authority who issues an apostille for a document so that they can be recognized in foreign countries that are members of the 1961 Hague Convention Treaty. This can be swiftly done at the Secretary of State’s office.
